The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has completed the shift for all practical purposes into the digital mode by 2025, virtually overthrowing all previous arrangements for PF and pension management for over seven crore members. This move is in line with India’s digital governance agenda and allows members to carry out all transactions online at the click of a button. This includes activities like filing claims, checking the status of accounts, e-nomination, and lodging grievances, none of which require a visit to the regional office.
The Upgraded UAN Functionality
The UAN has been fully developed to serve as an employment history; KYC details; pension; and nominee records portal. The process of changing jobs has been simplified as the new employer could link the existing UAN for an automatic transfer of PF balances. The UAN dashboard lets members view, in real time, contributions to their PF, withdrawals, pension eligibility, etc., thus reducing errors and completing the paperwork.
Real-Time Pension Monitoring
EPS-95 pensioners have the new, real-time pension tracking system in their favor. Users can use the EPFO app or portal to see their credited pension payments, their payment history, and to get their digital pension slips, and can resolve any discrepancies on the spot. Senior citizens are empowered with transparency and without delays that were set by manual processes.
Quickest Auto-Claim Processing
The AI-based auto-claim settlement system of EPFO introduced in 2025 now processes claims within 72 hours once verified. This method cross-verifies Aadhaar, bank details, and service tenure to deliver the funds quickly during an emergency for medical needs or education purpose, thereby diminishing waiting time and easy accessibility for these urgent financial needs.
Compulsory Aadhaar and Mobile Linking
To secure the accounts and access these attested Aadhaar and mobile numbers must be linked with UAN. Failure to do so may lead to the stoppage of PF contributions or inability to access the portal. There is also facial recognition login available on the EPFO app to help taking aiding in making it easier for senior citizens to use it without having to depend on a password.
Less complex Digital Life Certificate
Pensioners no longer must go to banks for Life Certificate deposits. Under 2025 rules, these may be submitted digitally through Jeevan Pramaan app using face authentication, or through Common Service Centres. Automated messages will remind pensioners of deadline dates, assuring that the pension is not stopped.
Nominee Update and Withdrawal Procedures Now Paperless
Nominee updates are paperless and managed online with Aadhaar e-verification, enabling prompt transfer of funds to nominees in case of an untoward incident. Similarly, partial PF withdrawal for emergencies including hospitalization or marriage has gone paperless and requires only UAN login plus Aadhaar verification, with credit done within a day.
Proactive Issue Redressal
EPFO sends SMS and Email alerts to the account holder every month regarding contribution, interest, and balance in the account, further enhancing transparency. The centralized grievance portal redresses grievances related to mismatch of balance, delayed pension, within five days, supported by chatbots, real-time based grievance tracking system ensuring accountability, and user satisfaction.
