R560 Child Grant Payment On August 5 Confirmed By SASSA: Check Your SMS

R560 Child Grant: Child Support Grant has been raised by SASSA to R560 per child per month beginning with the year 2025, thus providing crucial relief to low-income families. The grant gives caregivers the means to provide basic necessities for children such as food, shelter, and education in an environment where living expenses go up with an inflation of 5.2% and food inflation of 6.1% in 2024. The Department seeks to coordinate assistance to millions of households; the grant is the backbone of South African social welfare.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates qualify for the grant if they satisfy the criteria:

  • Reside in South Africa and Status: Should be a citizen, permanent resident, or a registered refugee living in South Africa.
  • Caregiver Involvement: Should be the primary caregiver-mother/father, grandparent, or guardian-of a child below 18 years of age.
  • Income Threshold: Household income should be less than R57,600 per annum for a single person, whilst for married people the amount stands at R115,200.
  • Child Conditions: The child must be living with the caregiver and not be state sponsored and, if of school-going age, must be able to attend school. Caregivers can claim for a maximum of six children, neither biological nor adopted. Giving false information may lead to a disqualification or prosecution. 

Application Procedure

The applications must be free of charge and done in person at any SASSA office:

  1. Step One : Carry with you a South African ID or refugee permit, child’s birth certificate, proof of income (payslips, bank statements), and proof of residence (utility bill).
  2. Step Two: Physically Visit a SASSA Office: Locate the nearest branch through sassa.gov.za or via the helpline 0800 60 10 11. An officer will assist with the application form.
  3. Step Three : Verification and Processing: An application could take as long as 90 days to process, with payments made retroactively from the date of application.Applicants without valid ID may submit an affidavit bearing an alternative form of identification, but must obtain an official ID within three months.

Payment Schedule and Arrangement

This R560 grant is given monthly, usually during the first week of the month, while payments for August 2025 will be done on the 6th of August. They can be accessed by means of:

  • Banking Account: Direct deposits to own bank/Postbank accounts.
  • SASSA Black Card: Through ATMs and can be used at retailers such as Shoprite or Pick n Pay.
  • CashSend: Withdraw without bank accounts by means of SMS in selected outlets.The beneficiary must, however, update banking details by the 31st of July, 2025, to prevent disruptions as had happened with 210,000 suspended grants in June 2025 due to verification issues.
