SASSA Grant Increase August 2025: New Payment Amounts And Dates Announced

SASSA grant increased in August 2025. This is the much-needed relief for beneficiaries over 19 million all of whom are facing the rising cost of living. These adjustments were necessary to accommodate an inflation rate of 5.2 pct with food inflation pegged at 6.1 pct in 2024 for Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, and Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants, ensuring it maintained their purchasing power. Grant Increases

In keeping with the economic pressures on citizens, SASSA instituted a two-step increment for 2025, with the first occurring in April, continuing in August. Some of the essential changes are:

  • Older persons grant has been increased to R2,315 for ages 60–74 (increase of R125 from R2,190) and R2,335 for those 75 years and older (increase of R125 from R2,210). 
  • Disability and Care Dependency Grants have been increased to R2,315 (increase of R125) monthly and are meant for those persons who are unable to work because of their disabilities.
  • Child Support Grant has been increased to R570 per child (R30 increase plus a R10 top-up) to help caregivers with the very basic needs.
  • Having risen to R1,250, Groomers Grant now stands as a good measure in support of foster parents.
  • The SRD Grant remains the same at R370, with payments beginning in mid-August, like a lifeline for such unemployed persons.

This increase, effective 1 August 2025, shows SASSA’s effort to keep grants with inflation so as they can purchase food, healthcare, utility bills, and so forth for the beneficiary.

Payment Schedule for August 2025

The payment schedule for August 2025 has been organized by SASSA in such a fashion as to minimize disbursements and keep congestion at payment points to a minimum.

  • Older Persons Grant: 2 August 2025.
  • Disability Grant: 5 August 2025.
  • Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, and Care Dependency Grants: 6 August 2025.
  • SRD Grant: Payments commence 16 August 2025, depending on verification status.A new payment date, 8 August, has been introduced for beneficiaries undergoing profile review to ensure they are not unfairly excluded. Beneficiaries are advised to wait for 2–3 days after their deposit dates to avoid crowds at ATMs and pay points such as Shoprite.

Avoiding Delays

The agency has urged the updating of contact and banking details by 31 July 2025 to avoid any problems, especially considering about 210,000 grants got suspended in June 2025 because of verification hitches. Beneficiaries can update their details: 

  1. Online: services.sassa.gov.za.
  2. In-Person: Take ID, proof of residence, and bank details to local SASSA offices).
  3. Helpline: 0800 60 10 11 or WhatsApp 082 046 8553.The transition to Postbank Black Cards, replacing Gold Cards, requires beneficiaries to collect new cards by 20 March 2025 to avoid payment problems.

Preventing Fraud and Scams

SASSA warns against scams and urges beneficiaries never to disclose pins or personal information. Payments are automatic; thus, there is no need to apply for continued benefits unless otherwise contacted. One can always check their status at srd.sassa.gov.za or by sending an SMS to 32555 to resolve any issues in good time.
